50 years later, when my son-in-law was getting his USAF pilot's training, he took me to the base simulator. The cockpit of a F-5 Falcon, all the controls, and a screen so real that when I flew maneuvers in it, my body felt them. I hadn't forgotten what I learned and the instinct and muscle memory came back to me. With a virtual jet, I did barrel rolls, loops, tried flying in formation, and landed--in one piece.
Love that you were a Junior Birdsman wearing my Dad’s flight jacket with Harold. Wonderful story.
I didn't know you learned to fly as a teenager. Made school at least tolerable, eh. Great story with a fun ending.
What a great lesson, exploring the winds and your ability to meet challenges, even when airsick.
